NEWSFLASH: Moonbuilding Issue 6 is out now!
The all-new print edition of your favourite DIY electronic music magazine has landed. Starring Loula Yorke, David Keenan, Clay Pipe Music, A'Bear, Gordon Chapman-Fox, Cate Brooks and so much more...
Well hello. Remember me? So you know my holiday? Kicking around somewhere hot and doing zero writing other than signing restaurant bills? Yeah, well that was last week. THIS WEEK IS MOONBUILDING ISSUE 6 PUBLICATION WEEK!
I had a full-on, head-down, both hands to the pump before I went away and while I was on my hols the presses rolled and I came home to a brand-new edition of Moonbuilding. It is quite a thing. Full details of the new issue are below. Grab yours now at moonbuilding.bandcamp.com
I’m so chuffed to have Loula Yorke on the cover. She is a musical head and shoulders cut above right now, a supremely talent artist who only seems to get better and better. She also happens to be great company with a brilliantly creative mind that pings around all over the place. “You don’t really interview Loula,” I say in my piece, “it’s more press record and have a good chat.”
Colin at Castles In Space has been saying lovely things about the new issue in his latest mailout, course he has. He says the Loula piece is “one of Neil’s trademark interviews that walks his usual tightrope between fun and depth. I dunno how he does it, but it’s brilliant.” He also describe my chat with ‘This Is Memorial Device’ author David Keenan as “beautiful”. He says it’s “heartwarming and life-affirming”. But don’t take his word for it, find out for yourself in the new issue, out now!
While I’ve got you, Moonbuilding Weekly will be back next week, 1 August, and there are still ad slots left. I know, right. Ads make the Moonbuilding world go round. Book before the end of this month and get FOUR August ads, so 1-22 Aug, for £100.
Not to be sniffed at, none of it.

****** MOONBUILDING ISSUE 6 ******
************* OUT NOW *************
Holy cow. MOONBUILDING Issue 6 has arrived. This new issue is out right now and it’s available from moonbuilding.bandcamp.com
Our cover star, illustrated by the peerless Nick Taylor, is the unstoppable force that is LOULA YORKE. In our bumper interview we talk about how she got here and where she’s going. As usual, it is an in-depth piece that lifts the lid on the brilliant mind behind the excellent music.
We met Loula at her home in Suffolk where we have a proper rummage around in her world, musically, humanly, psychologically, probably even a bit metaphysically. It is a cracking read and really opens the doors on what makes this most remarkable artist tick.
As always the issue comes with an accompanying CD. This one is a Loula Yorke collection called ‘How Did We Get Here’, which is compiled by artist herself and charts her rise and rise. The resulting 11-tracker will take you on a journey through her career to this point and it is utterly, totally, absolutely, exclusive to Moonbuilding.
Elsewhere, there’s a great chat with Clay Pipe Music supremo Frances Castle as we profile her wonderful label, A’Bear gets in on the There’s A First Time For Everything act, we round up an absolute mountain of recent releases and serve up our thoughts on the best albums from the last few months, which feature Loula Yorke, Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan’s Gordon Chapman-Fox, Cate Brooks, 30 Door Key and Sarno Ultra.
We talk to ‘This Is Memorial Device’ author David Keenan about ‘Volcanic Tongue’, his debut collection of music writing. He is one of the last generation of music writers who could actually call themselves as journalists. He talks a lot of sense and his work is a shining example of what music writing should be. It’s an unmissable interview.
Elsewhere, we round up an absolute mountain of recent releases and point you in the right direction of some mighty fine independent magazines and books. The Orb’s Alex Paterson tells us about his ‘Top Of The Pops’ experience when he appeared on the legendary show performing ‘Blue Room’ in 1993. I say performing… There’s a new Captain Star cartoon strip from the brilliant Steven Appleby. I constantly have to pinch myself that this strip, that I first read in the NME in the early 1980s, is now in my magazine.
The doors are open at moonbuilding.bandcamp.com for your purchasing pleasure. This issue has a short print run and will sell out fast. Do not hang about.
